Temple Beth-El

Dear Friends,

After enjoying a beautiful Shabbat with our Temple Beth-El family, I was devastated to learn the news about what took place yesterday in Charlottesville, a community that is close to us both physically and emotionally. You can read some of my preliminary reflections on my Facebook page, but needless to say I am heartbroken, angry, and more firmly resolved than ever to eradicate hate, to pursue justice, to embrace diversity, and to advance peace.

In the coming days, I hope to share some actions we might be able to take as a community to move forward. But for now, I wanted to share an invitation I received from my friend Jonathan Zur, CEO of Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities:

"Delegate Delores McQuinn has asked the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities and others to help spread the word about a gathering at the Reconciliation Statue (15th and E. Main Streets in Richmond) at 5:00pm tomorrow (Sunday) evening.  This event will be an opportunity to come together and show solidarity with the Charlottesville community in the face of this weekend’s tragic bigotry and hatred.  I will forward more details when I have them.  Please share with your networks."

I hope to attend the gathering this evening at the Reconciliation Statue, and, if you're able, I encourage you to do so as well. It is important at this moment to send the message that we oppose hate; that we stand with the vulnerable, the marginalized, and the threatened; that we reject white supremacy and seek to eradicate it; and that we believe in and are dedicated to a just, diverse, and inclusive America.
